How pen names work on Booklabria
For authorsUpdated 1 min read
One account, one login, and a public author page for each pen name. Each pen name has its own books, followers, bios and campaigns; you switch between them in Studio, one is primary, and archiving never deletes published books. How many you can hold depends on your plan.
The short answer
Many authors write under more than one name: a romance name and a thriller name, a pen name for a series. You do not need a second account.
One account, several names
Your account has one login. Each pen name has its own public author page, with its own byline, avatar, bios and followers. Books, series, campaigns and Journal entries belong to the pen name they were made under.
How you use them
- Create one in Studio › Pen names: a name readers see and an optional short bio.
- Switch with the pen switcher at the top of Studio. Every Studio screen then shows that pen name alone.
- Primary is the one Studio opens on. Make primary moves it.
- Archive a name you no longer write under. Its published books stay public under it; a running campaign must be finished or paused first; nothing is deleted. Restore brings it back.
What readers see
A reader sees the pen name, never your other names or your account. A reader follows a pen name, not you; if you want readers of one name to find another, say so in a Journal entry.
How many you can have
The plan decides: Author and Creator have one, Pro up to five, Publisher as many as its imprint needs. During the beta every author feature is unlocked. See Plans and the beta.

Where this lives
Related
- Pen names: creating, switching, the primary one, archiving: An author account can publish under more than one pen name on the Pro plan (up to five) and on Publisher (unlimited across the imprint); Author and Creator have one. Studio, Pen names lists them, creates one with a name, address, bio and avatar, sets the primary, and archives one; the pen switcher in Studio's header moves you between them. Archiving keeps that pen's published books public; the limit is stated in a sentence with the plan that lifts it.
- Your pen name and public page: Your pen name is your public identity; books, series, campaigns and Journal entries attach to it. Edit its name, bios, avatar, banner, the genres you write, the languages you publish in and external links under Studio, Settings. Several pen names per account from Studio, Pen names: add, open in Studio, make primary, archive; Author and Creator one, Pro up to five, Publisher unlimited.
- Plans, and what the beta unlocks: Readers never pay; there is no reader plan and never will be. Writing here is free forever: books, series, the Journal and followers are never limited on any plan. What the plans are for is the launch: advance-copy campaigns, the readers who come with them, and the people who help. Author (free) has one pen name and one small campaign at a time (up to 25 readers, no delivery links); Creator ($9 a month or $90 a year) runs 3 campaigns at a time with up to 100 readers each; Pro ($19 or $190) is unlimited with 5 pen names and 2 collaborators; Publisher ($59 or $590) is the imprint, billed yearly by invoice with 5 seats. A $12 campaign pass runs one campaign (up to 100 readers) without a plan, valid for 60 days from the day you buy it. The 14-day trial needs a card and starts with your first campaign or delivery link, not at signup. During the closed beta nothing is charged and every author feature is unlocked.
- Imprints and teams: An imprint is the Publisher plan's workspace, several pen names and people in one place with roles (owner, editor, marketer, analyst). It invites an existing author's pen name; the author accepts from Settings, Teams, keeps ownership of the pen and its public page, and can leave with one click. Members run campaigns on behalf of a pen, every action is in the imprint's audit trail, and nobody but the reader path ever downloads a campaign's file. A Publisher account uses the same support as everyone.
- Publishing your first book: Create a book from Studio, Books, New book, with its synopsis, up to three genres and six tropes, content level and warnings, language, page count and a cover (uploaded, or a pattern with the title drawn on). It starts as a draft only you can see; set it to Coming soon (with a date) or Published when ready. Add a sample and buy links from the edit page; archiving takes it off the catalog without deleting anything.
