Plans, and what the beta unlocks
For readers and authorsUpdated 7 min read
Readers never pay; there is no reader plan and never will be. Writing here is free forever: books, series, the Journal and followers are never limited on any plan. What the plans are for is the launch: advance-copy campaigns, the readers who come with them, and the people who help. Author (free) has one pen name and one small campaign at a time (up to 25 readers, no delivery links); Creator ($9 a month or $90 a year) runs 3 campaigns at a time with up to 100 readers each; Pro ($19 or $190) is unlimited with 5 pen names and 2 collaborators; Publisher ($59 or $590) is the imprint, billed yearly by invoice with 5 seats. A $12 campaign pass runs one campaign (up to 100 readers) without a plan, valid for 60 days from the day you buy it. The 14-day trial needs a card and starts with your first campaign or delivery link, not at signup. During the closed beta nothing is charged and every author feature is unlocked.
The short answer
Readers never pay
There is no reader plan and there never will be: shelves, reviews, following, ARC access, smart shelves, saved searches, goals, insights, wraps, Profile Studio, hosting Reading Circles and exporting your data are part of every reader account, for as long as it exists, with no ads and no selling of your data. A reader's Settings › Billing says exactly that and nothing else.
The four author plans
Booklabria is not a store and takes no cut of book sales; a plan is a flat subscription for the launch and audience tools. Prices are in USD, plus applicable tax; the annual price is ten months for twelve.
| Author | Creator | Pro | Publisher | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price | Free | $9 a month or $90 a year | $19 a month or $190 a year | $590 a year, billed by invoice (or $59 a month) |
| Advance-copy campaigns at a time | 1 | 3 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Readers per campaign | Up to 25 | Up to 100 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Pen names | 1 | 1 | 5 | Unlimited, across the imprint |
| Collaborators on a pen name | 0 | 0 | 2 | 5 seats, with roles |
| Letter analytics history (other analytics tabs: the last 30 days, on every plan) | 90 days | 12 months | 12 months | 12 months |
Never limited, on any plan: books and series, the Journal (letters, excerpts, polls, progress), followers, reviews, Reading Circles, the Charts, the Audience analytics (followers, favourite genres, reach), and your data export. The limits are about advance copies and the people who help run them; nothing about writing, publishing or being read is metered.
What each adds, beyond the numbers:
- Author: a public author page with one pen name, unlimited books and series, a Journal your readers follow, and your followers counted, with 90 days of letter analytics history (every other analytics tab shows the last 30 days, on every plan). One advance-copy campaign at a time, up to 25 readers, with no delivery links and no reader requirements or compatibility scoring, and a "See plans" card wherever more would be.
- Creator: one pen name, 3 campaigns at a time with up to 100 readers each, reader compatibility scoring and requirements, pinned announcements, live sessions, Official Circles, deals and events, 12 months of letter analytics history.
- Pro: unlimited campaigns and unlimited readers per campaign, five pen names, two collaborators on a pen name.
- The campaign pass: $12 once, one advance-copy campaign with up to 100 readers, valid for 60 days from the day you buy it, and no subscription. It does not carry Creator's tools. For the author with one book to launch (The campaign pass, and how the trial works).
- Publisher: everything in Pro for a whole imprint: several pen names and people in one workspace, with roles, a consolidated catalog, campaigns run on behalf of a pen, and analytics across titles. See Imprints and teams. A Publisher account uses the same help as everyone else: this help center, Booklabria AI, and a message to a person; there is no separate support line.
The Pricing page has the same table under Compare author plans, with the founding, trial and grace rows.
During the closed beta
- Nothing is charged. Payments are switched off across the whole product: no checkout, no card form, no way to be charged. The Pricing page says so under each card: Free in beta and after on Author, Unlocked in beta · 14-day trial with a card on file after on Creator and Pro, Planned price, not billed in beta on Publisher.
- Every author feature is unlocked so you can build your catalog and run campaigns for free. An author's Settings › Billing shows the plan and says so.
- Booklabria never stores a card; when payments exist, details live with the payment provider.
When billing opens
Authors are told well in advance, and nothing changes without your say. Everyone who holds an author account on the day billing opens gets the founding price and thirty days of unchanged access before any limit applies; When the beta ends walks through those thirty days. The founding price is this: Creator and Pro keep the price they have on the day billing opens for twelve months from the day your trial starts, even if list prices rise. Your trial has to start within twelve months of billing opening (the Pricing page shows the date). The twelve months start with the trial, not with the first payment. If your card has already had its trial, they start the day your plan begins. Publisher is billed on an imprint's own account and is not part of it. The rules once billing is open:
Trials. Creator and Pro come with a 14-day trial, with a card on file, and it starts the day you open your first campaign or delivery link, not when you sign up: until then the plan costs nothing and holds nothing. A $0 hold on that day, a reminder on day 11, the founding price on day 14, and one click to cancel before it. One card starts one trial, ever (The campaign pass, and how the trial works).
Choosing and changing. From the Pricing page or Settings › Billing › Change plan, with the Monthly or Annual switch; Switch to annual any time and save two months. Moving up applies at once and charges only the difference for the rest of the period, at the amount the dialog quotes (Switch to Pro (monthly)? then Switch now). Moving down (including monthly to annual of the same plan) takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for; nothing changes and nothing is charged before then, and you can keep your current plan from Settings until that day. Stripe handles the card and Booklabria never stores it.
Cancelling. Cancel plan in Settings, then a confirmation. Your plan keeps working until the end of the period you have paid for, then your account moves to the free Author plan. You can Resume before then. Nothing is deleted: books, campaigns, readers and history all stay.
If a payment fails. Your plan card says Payment didn't go through and Retrying until the date: your plan keeps working for seven days while the card is retried, and you are told in the product and by e-mail. Manage payment details opens the billing portal; update the card there and it resolves itself. After seven days without payment, paid features pause and your account moves to the free Author plan; campaigns beyond the free allowance are paused, not cancelled, and are offered for resume once a plan allows.
Limits. Your plan includes on Settings › Billing shows each allowance as used of allowed (Pen names 1 of 1, ARC campaigns running 0 of 3, ARC approvals this month 0 of 300, Collaborators 0 of 2). When you reach one, the product refuses the new thing in a plain sentence that names the plan that lifts it and links here. Two different things happen when a plan changes. A feature the new plan does not include (a longer analytics history, audience segments, live sessions) simply stops being offered; what it showed stays visible and readable. A catalog item beyond an allowance (a pen name, a book or series, a campaign, a collaborator) is set aside: hidden from readers, kept, and restorable the moment a plan fits (When the beta ends has the rules). Nothing you have made is ever removed by a plan.
Invoices and receipts. Every payment sends a receipt e-mail with a link to the invoice and its PDF on the provider's page; Payments on Settings › Billing lists them with the same links, and the billing portal holds the full history.
Refunds. Monthly plans are not refunded, but you can cancel any time and the plan runs to the end of the period. The first payment of an annual plan is refunded in full on request within 14 days. Refunds are issued from the payment provider and appear under Payments.
Questions go to support from the Help Center's contact page; a refund request is answered within two working days.
Where this lives
Related
- The beta, what it is, who gets in, what is free: Booklabria is a closed beta by invitation. Readers never pay; authors have four plans (Author free, Creator $9, Pro $19, Publisher $59 a month, less on a year) but nothing is charged during the beta, and beta authors keep the founding price of Creator and Pro for twelve months from the day their trial starts, and have thirty days of unchanged access when billing opens; ARC files are delivered through protected, expiring links; apps for iOS and Android are on the way; nobody here can give a date.
- The campaign pass, and how the trial works: The campaign pass is one advance-copy campaign with up to 100 readers for $12, once, valid for 60 days from the day you buy it, no subscription, for the author with one book to launch. It does not carry Creator's tools. The Creator and Pro trials are 14 days with a card on file, and they start the day you open your first campaign or delivery link, not when you sign up: a $0 hold, nothing charged until day 14, a reminder on day 11, cancel in one click. One card starts one trial, ever.
- When the beta ends: your thirty days, and what stays: The day billing opens, every author who joined in the beta keeps the founding price of Creator and Pro for twelve months from the day their trial starts and has thirty days of unchanged access. In those days you choose: Upgrade and keep everything, or Choose what stays on the free Author plan. Anything beyond the free allowances is set aside, hidden from readers, kept, and restorable the moment a plan fits; nothing is ever deleted. If you have not chosen by day thirty, what readers use most stays and the rest is set aside for you; you are told which, and can swap any time within the allowance.
- Pen names: creating, switching, the primary one, archiving: An author account can publish under more than one pen name on the Pro plan (up to five) and on Publisher (unlimited across the imprint); Author and Creator have one. Studio, Pen names lists them, creates one with a name, address, bio and avatar, sets the primary, and archives one; the pen switcher in Studio's header moves you between them. Archiving keeps that pen's published books public; the limit is stated in a sentence with the plan that lifts it.
- Imprints and teams: An imprint is the Publisher plan's workspace, several pen names and people in one place with roles (owner, editor, marketer, analyst). It invites an existing author's pen name; the author accepts from Settings, Teams, keeps ownership of the pen and its public page, and can leave with one click. Members run campaigns on behalf of a pen, every action is in the imprint's audit trail, and nobody but the reader path ever downloads a campaign's file. A Publisher account uses the same support as everyone.
- Becoming an author: A reader account becomes an author account from For authors: choose a pen name, add a short bio, and Studio opens. Your library, reviews and follows come with you; the reader-only surfaces close, and the change cannot be undone from the product.
- Working with a team on a pen name: From Settings, Teams, the owner of a pen name invites another account by username as an Editor or a Manager; once they accept from their own Settings, Teams, they work on that pen name in Studio (books, campaigns, entries, promotions, analytics). Only the owner can invite, remove or change roles; team members can never rename or delete the pen name or see billing.
- Download your data: Settings › Privacy › Download your data builds a complete copy of your account, free, always; it is ready in a few minutes, kept for 7 days, and each download link lives about 15 minutes. Reader accounts can also export chosen parts as spreadsheet-friendly files.
