When the beta ends: your thirty days, and what stays
For authorsUpdated 4 min read
The day billing opens, every author who joined in the beta keeps the founding prices for twelve months and has thirty days of unchanged access. In those days you choose: Upgrade and keep everything, or Choose what stays on the free Author plan. Anything beyond the free allowances is set aside, hidden from readers, kept, and restorable the moment a plan fits; nothing is ever deleted. If you have not chosen by day thirty, what readers use most stays and the rest is set aside for you; you are told which, and can swap any time within the allowance.
The short answer
The day billing opens
Nobody is charged during the closed beta, and nothing on this page happens until the day billing opens. No date has been announced for that day, and nobody can give one (About the beta); you are told in the app well before it. On that day, for every account that holds an author profile:
- The founding prices are yours for twelve months from that day. The Pricing page shows the date they run to. If a list price rises inside those months, you are not moved to it.
- Thirty days of unchanged access. Every author feature stays unlocked and no allowance is enforced for thirty days, so there is time to look at the plans and decide. The product tells you in the app and by e-mail, with the date, seven days before the thirty days end, if anything of yours is beyond the free Author plan.
Your two choices
In those thirty days Settings › Billing offers two doors, and the Pricing page the same:
Upgrade and keep everything. Choose Creator or Pro (a 14-day trial, no card) or a Publisher imprint, and nothing changes: every book, series, campaign, pen name and collaborator stays exactly as it is, because the plan's allowances cover them. Your founding price applies.
Choose what stays. Stay on the free Author plan and decide what fits inside it: 3 books and 1 series, 1 pen name, 1 ARC campaign at a time, 25 approvals a month, no collaborators, 30 days of analytics history. You pick which books, which series, which pen name and which campaign remain public; the rest is set aside.
What "set aside" means
Set aside is not deleted, and never will be:
- A set-aside book or series is hidden from readers (off your author page, out of search and the Charts; a reader who already shelved or reviewed it keeps it on their shelf, with "not available right now"), and kept: it sits in Studio under Set aside, with Restore and Swap. A set-aside series hides its page and the "Book N of M" line; its kept books stay.
- A set-aside campaign is paused, not cancelled: its approved readers keep the copies they already have, and nothing is promised to anyone new.
- A pen name beyond the allowance is set aside with everything under it: its page says "not available right now" to readers (followers keep following it), its books are hidden the same way, and it is kept, listed under Set aside on Studio › Pen names. This is not archiving: archiving is your choice and keeps a pen's books public.
- Collaborators beyond the allowance have their access paused; nothing they made is removed, and they are told, on the day the window opens and on the day it applies.
Everything set aside is restorable the moment a plan fits: choose a plan and everything comes back at once, in the state it had (a paused campaign waits for you to resume it, because its readers were told a date); within a plan, Restore on a set-aside item is refused in a sentence while the allowance is full, and Swap trades one visible item for one set aside.
If you do nothing by day thirty
The allowances apply on their own and what readers use most stays: the pen name with the most recent activity (its last entry, campaign or book; the most followers if tied), the most reviewed books and series and then the most shelved, and, of the campaigns, the one with applications waiting, else the one with the nearest deadline; the rest is set aside. You are told which items were set aside (in the product and by mail, with reminders on day 23 and day 29 that spell the default out), and you can swap any of them at any time within the allowance, or choose a plan and have everything back. Settings › Billing › Keep or set aside is where you choose, step by step, pen names first because a pen carries the rest.
What never changes
- Nothing is deleted, on day thirty or ever, by a plan. Only you can delete a book, a campaign or an account.
- Your readers keep what they have: shelves, reviews, progress and any ARC copy already delivered.
- Your data export is always free (Download your data).
- Readers are never charged, and never will be.
Where this lives
Related
- Plans, and what the beta unlocks: Readers never pay; there is no reader plan and never will be. Authors have four plans, Author (free), Creator, Pro and Publisher, with founding prices and real allowances (pen names 1, 1, 5, unlimited; books 3 and 1 series on Author, then unlimited; campaigns 1, 3, unlimited; ARC approvals 25, 300, 2,000 a month; collaborators 0, 0, 2, the imprint). During the closed beta nothing is charged and every author feature is unlocked. When billing opens: 14-day trials without a card, founding prices for twelve months, upgrades at once, downgrades at the end of the period, a seven-day grace after a failed payment, nothing deleted.
- The beta, what it is, who gets in, what is free: Booklabria is a closed beta by invitation. Readers never pay; authors have four plans (Author free, Creator $9, Pro $19, Publisher $59 a month, less on a year) but nothing is charged during the beta, and beta authors keep the founding prices for twelve months and thirty days of unchanged access when billing opens; ARC files are delivered through protected, expiring links; apps for iOS and Android are on the way; nobody here can give a date.
- Pen names: creating, switching, the primary one, archiving: An author account can publish under more than one pen name on the Pro plan (up to five) and on Publisher (unlimited across the imprint); Author and Creator have one. Studio, Pen names lists them, creates one with a name, address, bio and avatar, sets the primary, and archives one; the pen switcher in Studio's header moves you between them. Archiving keeps that pen's published books public; the limit is stated in a sentence with the plan that lifts it.
- Running an ARC campaign: Studio, Campaigns, New campaign walks through the book, dates and reader spots, ideal readers (genres, tropes, languages, regions, requirements), delivery (formats, files, your message) and how to launch (draft, scheduled, or now). Applications gather under Applications with each reader's match and reliability; approve or decline one by one or in batches, and every decision notifies the reader.
- Download your data: Settings › Privacy › Download your data builds a complete copy of your account, free, always; it is ready in a few minutes, kept for 7 days, and each download link lives about 15 minutes. Reader accounts can also export chosen parts as spreadsheet-friendly files.
