Changing the e-mail on your account
For readers and authorsUpdated 1 min read
Your e-mail address is how you sign in and where the digest goes. During the beta it is changed by the team on request: contact support from your signed-in account with the new address.
The short answer
What the address does
Your e-mail address is how you sign in, where the reset link goes when you forget your password, and where the digest and any e-mail you turned on arrive. There is no username-only sign-in.
Changing it during the beta
Settings › Account shows the address, read-only; the change button says Available after beta. Until then the team changes it for you:
- Sign in, and open Settings › Support › New message (or Contact support).
- Choose the Account category, and write the new address in the message.
- A person makes the change and tells you in your ticket. The change is recorded on your account's history.
Because the request comes from your signed-in account, nobody who merely knows your address can move it. Support never asks for your password.
If you cannot sign in at all
If the old address is one you no longer receive mail at and you have forgotten the password, write to support from the address on the account if you still can, or from the contact form as a visitor with as much as you remember (username, the books on your shelves); a person will look. See I can't log in.
Where this lives
Related
- An e-mail I expected did not arrive: During the beta e-mail may be off for the deployment; when it is on, check the digest rhythm and spam; reset links expire in an hour.
- Notifications: in-app, e-mail, push and the digest: Four categories (Social, Books, Early copies, Account), three channels (in-app, e-mail, push), an e-mail digest that is off, daily or weekly, per-author alerts for the people you follow, and a timezone. Nothing is ever sent one e-mail per like.
- I cannot log in: Email or password is incorrect" means one of the two is wrong, or the account was closed. Check the address, reset the password from the login page (the link works once and expires in an hour), wait a minute after "Too many attempts", and a suspended account is told so with support as the next step. Signed out everywhere means someone used Sign out everywhere.
