Your profile's look: Profile Studio, themes and dark mode
For readers and authorsUpdated 2 min read
Profile Studio (Settings › Profile › Studio) sets your profile's theme, accent, layout and banner and the order of its modules, with a preview at phone and desktop width; nothing changes for visitors until you publish. Light and dark follow your system.
The short answer
Profile Studio
Settings › Profile › Studio arranges how your public profile looks. Nothing changes for visitors until you Publish; Save draft keeps your work in progress, and the preview can be switched between desktop and mobile width.
- Theme: Paper, Sepia, Sage, Coast, Ink, Dusk.
- Accent: the color of links and highlights (for example Teal, Cobalt, Ember).
- Layout: Classic, Showcase or Minimal.
- Banner: a design drawn from your username, one from the gallery (Quiet Library, Midnight Reading, Coastal Pages and others), or a photo you upload.
- Modules, in the order you choose: Reading now, Reading stats, Featured books, Pinned shelves, Pinned reviews, Achievements, Reading goals. On a desktop they are the side rail beside your feed; on a phone they are the highlights strip between the masthead and the tabs, and the About tab. A module with nothing in it is not shown, and with fewer than two to show, the page is one column and the survivors ride the strip.
Your Reading Life posts are not a module: they are your profile's first tab, the feed itself, with Shelves, Reviews, Activity and About beside it.
The masthead is not a module and cannot be moved or hidden, because a visitor must always be able to tell whose profile it is: your banner, your photo, your name with its identity mark, your handle, your bio, and the line that says Reader and since when, together with the follow, report and safety controls.
Your follow-through is not a module either. Whether it shows on your profile is set in Settings › Privacy › Follow-through: by default only the authors you request a copy from see it, on your request; choose Followers or Everyone to show it on your profile too.
Light and dark
The product follows your system's light or dark setting; there is no separate switch in the app.
Reading Circles
A Circle you run has its own appearance settings (theme, accent, banner) in its Manage area; see Running a Reading Circle.
Where this lives
Related
- Creating your account and profile: Sign up with an invite code, an e-mail address and a password; the code decides whether the account is a reader or an author account; then fill in the profile readers see (name, username, photo, bio) under Settings › Profile.
- Who sees what: profile visibility: Settings › Privacy sets your whole profile to public, followers only or private, and your library, reading progress, activity and follower list each on their own. Your follow-through is a fifth setting: by default only the authors you request a copy from see it. Author pages are public by nature; what an author keeps private is the library and activity.
- How achievements work: Achievements are illustrated marks for things you actually did here. Finishing books, turning up to Circle meetings, charting. Only the ones you have earned are shown, newest first, on your profile; each opens to say when and for what.
