Signing out everywhere
For readers and authorsUpdated 1 min read
Settings › Account › Sign out everywhere else ends every other session (a shared computer, a lost phone, a password you suspect was known) while this device stays signed in; a password reset does the same.
The short answer
When to use it
After a shared computer, a lost phone, or a password you suspect was known. It ends every session but the one you are using.
How
- Open Settings › Account.
- Under Sign out everywhere else, press the button and confirm.
- Every other browser and device loses its session the next time it loads a page. This device stays signed in.
If a password may have leaked, change it as well (Changing your password); changing it alone does not end other sessions, signing out everywhere does.
What else ends sessions
- A password reset from the login page signs out every other device when you use the link.
- Deleting your account signs you out everywhere at once.
What support can do
Support can sign you out everywhere from your account page when you write in (it is one of the two things they can do to an account, the other being to send you a reset link); they cannot see your sessions' contents or your password.
Where this lives
Related
- Changing your password: Signed in, change your password under Settings › Account with your current one; other devices stay signed in unless you use Sign out everywhere else. Forgotten it? Ask for a reset link from the login page.
- I forgot my password: Ask for a reset link from the login page (Forgot password?) with the e-mail address on your account; the link works once, expires in an hour, and using it signs out every other device.
- Download your data: Settings › Privacy › Download your data builds a complete copy of your account, free, always; it is ready in a few minutes, kept for 7 days, and each download link lives about 15 minutes. Reader accounts can also export chosen parts as spreadsheet-friendly files.
