Sharing your e-mail with an author

On an author's page you can let that author e-mail you: a dialog shows the exact words, a confirmation e-mail seals it, the author only ever gets an export of confirmed addresses, and you can withdraw at any time under Settings › Notifications.
The short answer
What it is
Following an author shows their news in your feed. Some readers also want to hear from an author off the platform. On an author's page, *Let the author e-mail me* does exactly that, and nothing else: it gives that one author your address, in a way you can show and take back.
How consent works
- On the author's page, press *Let the author e-mail me. A dialog shows the exact words you are agreeing to; press Send me the confirmation*.
- You get one e-mail with the same words and a link. Until you press the button on that page, the author's count is zero and your address is nowhere an author can read. The link is single-use and dead after seven days; the state on the author's page reads "Check your inbox to confirm".
- Once confirmed, the page reads "the author may e-mail you".
The address given is the one on your account at that moment, and the words, the time and the confirmation are kept with it, so a consent can always be shown.
What the author gets
A count, and an export. The author sees how many readers agreed under Studio › Audience and can download a file of the confirmed addresses, each row carrying the words agreed to. Booklabria never sends e-mail on an author's behalf, has no place for an author to compose one, and warns the file that it is theirs to use responsibly. Withdrawn addresses are left out of the next export.
Withdrawing
Settings › Notifications › Authors who may e-mail you lists every author you have agreed to, each with Withdraw; the author's page offers the same. Withdrawing keeps a record that you had agreed and when you withdrew (so the question can always be answered), and the author's next export leaves you out. Mail that author already sent from their own tools is theirs to stop; the e-mail itself will say how.
One thing it is not
Your ARC applications, reviews and follows never hand an author your address. Only this button does, and only after you confirmed.
