Appealing a moderation decision
For readers and authorsUpdated 1 min read
When a moderator hides a post or review, unpublishes a book, archives a Circle or suspends an account, the owner is told with the reason. To appeal, contact support with what was hidden and why the decision was wrong; a different person reviews it.
The short answer
You are told
When a moderator hides a post, comment or review, unpublishes a book, archives a Circle, or warns or suspends an account, the owner is told, with the reason, in their notifications. A saved link to content that was taken down says so rather than pretending it never existed.
A suspended account sees a clear explanation at login; its content is hidden, not deleted, until the suspension is lifted.
To appeal
- Contact support. Signed in, use Settings › Support › New message; if you cannot sign in, use the form signed out with the e-mail address on the account.
- Say what was hidden and why you think the decision was wrong.
- A different person reviews the appeal, where the size of the team allows. You are answered in your ticket.
What a reversal returns
When staff reverse a decision, exactly what was taken is restored: the same post or review, in place, with its reactions and comments; an unpublished book returns to its status; an archived Circle reopens for its members.
What cannot be appealed here
The Terms and the Community guidelines are the rules; an appeal is about whether they were applied rightly to a specific case, not about the rules themselves. Suggestions about the rules are welcome through the same form.
Where this lives
Related
- Reporting and blocking: Every profile, post, comment, book, review and photo has Report in its menu; a human moderator reviews it. Blocking someone hides you from each other entirely, they are not told, and you can undo it under Settings › Privacy.
- I cannot log in: Email or password is incorrect" means one of the two is wrong, or the account was closed. Check the address, reset the password from the login page (the link works once and expires in an hour), wait a minute after "Too many attempts", and a suspended account is told so with support as the next step. Signed out everywhere means someone used Sign out everywhere.
- Running a Reading Circle: Start a Circle from the Circles page (up to ten of your own); the Manage tab has one section per job (Details, Book and plan, Schedules, Access, Members, Appearance, Moderation, Polls, Challenges, Live). Moderation is a preset you read before applying, with the previous configuration kept so you can restore it; invite links can expire, be limited or revoked.
