Sending an early copy to your Kindle
For readersUpdated 3 min read
When an author offers Send to Kindle, Booklabria e-mails the watermarked EPUB to your own Kindle address. Set it up once: save your Kindle address (name@kindle.com or name@free.kindle.com) and add our sending address to Amazon's Approved Personal Document E-mail List. Each copy can be sent five times, every send is logged, and the author sees that it was sent, never your address. If it does not arrive, check the approved list and the address, then send again.
The short answer
When it is offered
Some authors offer Send to Kindle on a campaign or a delivery link. If it is the only way, your approved copy says Ready to send. If the author offered more than one way, you pick from equal cards, Read here, Download for your e-reader and Send to Kindle, and can switch until the first download or send (Reading or downloading your early copy). If a copy has no Send to Kindle card, the author did not offer it: read it here or download it.
Set it up once
- Find your Kindle address. Amazon gives each device one, ending in @kindle.com (or @free.kindle.com). It is under your device's settings on Amazon.
- Add our sending address to Amazon's approved list. Amazon only accepts documents from addresses you have approved, so without this our e-mail never reaches your Kindle. Our sending address is shown in the box where you enter your Kindle address, and again in Settings › Account, where you can select and copy it. On Amazon: Manage Your Content and Devices, Preferences, Personal Document Settings, Approved Personal Document E-mail List.
- Press Send to Kindle on the copy. The first time it asks for your Kindle address; press Save and send.
Your Kindle address is private: only you see it, in Settings › Account, where you can change it or remove it any time (copies already on your Kindle stay there). The author never sees it. It is part of your data export (Download your data), and it is deleted with your account.
Sending
We e-mail the watermarked EPUB to your Kindle address as an attachment; it usually arrives within a few minutes. Each copy allows five sends, like downloads. The row says 4 of 5 sends left, and after a send the button reads Send again. Every send is logged (which copy, when, how big); the log does not keep your address. The author sees Sent to Kindle and the date, not how far you have read.
The copy carries the same hidden watermark as a download, a code that is never your name or e-mail, so a leaked file can be traced to the copy it came from.
If it does not arrive
- Our address is not on your approved list. Add it as above, then press Send again.
- The address is wrong. That is not a Kindle address means what you typed does not end in @kindle.com or @free.kindle.com; fix it in Settings › Account. Your Kindle address is not taking our mail means a send bounced: check the address and the approved list, then try again.
- The file is too big. A book above the e-mail size limit cannot be sent. The message gives both sizes and points to the download: download it, then use Amazon's own Send to Kindle.
- You used all five sends. The button says Send limit reached for this copy. Write to the author from the campaign page, or contact support.
What Amazon sees
The e-mail goes through our e-mail service to Amazon, which delivers the file to your device under Amazon's own terms. Amazon receives the file and your Kindle address, and nothing else about you. See the Privacy policy.
Where this lives
Related
- Reading or downloading your early copy, and how the file is protected: The author chooses per campaign how you receive an approved early copy, and may offer more than one way for you to pick from: you read it on Booklabria (the file stays on the server, you open it from My early copies, your progress is saved as you read), you download a protected copy through a link that expires fifteen minutes after it is issued (five downloads per approval, every one logged, every EPUB watermarked), or, if the author offers Send to Kindle, we e-mail the watermarked EPUB to your own Kindle address (five sends per approval). If a link expires, ask for a fresh one; if you reach a limit, write to the author or support.
- Requesting an early copy: When an author runs an active campaign, the book page shows Request this copy and the **Early copies** page lists it under **Free early copies** with the reasons it fits you; a request carries a short note, waits for the author's decision, and can be cancelled while pending. There is no waitlist.
- A download or a page is not working: An early copy link that stopped working expired after fifteen minutes; ask for a fresh one from My early copies. A page that says Something went wrong keeps what you wrote; try again, then use Get help, which opens the contact form with the page and a reference filled in. This page has wandered off means a mistyped, moved or unpublished link. You're offline means the app needs a connection; your shelves and notes are safe.
- ARC delivery and tracking: You choose per campaign how readers receive the book: Read on Booklabria (the file stays on the server, readers open it on the site or in the app, and the Reading tab shows progress by chapter, who finished and where readers stop, as counts), a Protected download (signed links that expire after fifteen minutes, five downloads per approval, every EPUB watermarked) or Send to Kindle (we e-mail the watermarked EPUB to the reader's own Kindle address, five sends per approval). Tick one or more; with two or more, each approved reader picks one. Upload the EPUB or PDF on the Delivery tab; reading on Booklabria and Send to Kindle need the EPUB. The Activity tab notes approvals, downloads and reviews as they happen; the analytics funnel shows how many downloads became reviews.
- Download your data: Settings › Privacy › Download your data builds a complete copy of your account, free, always; it is ready in a few minutes, kept for 7 days, and each download link lives about 15 minutes. Reader accounts can also export chosen parts as spreadsheet-friendly files.
