Verified professional badges
For readers and authorsUpdated 2 min read
Librarians, booksellers, book reviewers, media and educators can apply under Settings › Professional verification for a verified badge, one type per application, with a confirmed work e-mail or a public link as proof. We usually decide within 3 working days, documents are deleted once we decide, and a badge lasts a year. You choose who sees it in Settings › Privacy › Professional badge. An author can tick the types they approve automatically when readers request an early copy.
The short answer
The five badges
A verified badge tells authors you read for work. Pick the type that fits; the proof we accept is named on the form.
| Badge | Proof |
|---|---|
| Verified librarian | A work e-mail at the library, or a staff page that lists you. |
| Verified bookseller | A work e-mail at the shop, or the shop's staff page. |
| Verified reviewer (blog, podcast, video, social) | Your outlet's link, with 10 or more book reviews in the last 12 months. |
| Verified media (journalist, editor) | A work e-mail at the outlet, or a published byline about books. |
| Verified educator (teacher, professor) | A work e-mail at the school or university. |
Applying
Open Settings › Professional verification and press Apply for a badge. One type per application; you can hold two by applying twice. Give the library, shop, outlet or school, and your role there, then the proof, of which one is enough:
- A work e-mail address. We send a 6-digit code there. A confirmed work address is enough for an approval.
- A public link, such as a staff page or your outlet.
- Optionally a document (a staff ID or a letter; PDF, PNG or JPEG, 10 MB at most) and a note.
We use this only to check your role. Documents are deleted once we decide, and only the verification team sees them. We usually decide within 3 working days. If we need more, the application says We asked for more, with a note from the verification team, and Update the application reopens it.
Keeping it
A badge lasts a year. In the last 30 days Renew appears beside it, with the form filled in from the year that is ending, and we e-mail you before it ends.
Who sees it
By default a librarian, bookseller or educator badge shows only to the authors you request a copy from, and a reviewer or media badge shows on your public profile. The form says which before you apply. Change it any time in Settings › Privacy › Professional badge: Only authors I request from or Everyone. Your choice covers every badge you hold.
For authors: approve verified readers automatically
In the campaign wizard, where you set the requirements, tick the badge types you approve automatically. Readers with a verified badge of a type you tick are approved the moment they request. They still need a free spot and must meet the campaign's other requirements. Everyone else waits for you as usual. A giveaway has no such option.
The reader is told Approved automatically as a verified librarian: your copy is ready. On your side the request is marked Approved automatically · Verified librarian, with the badge beside the reader's name. See Running an early-copy campaign.
Where this lives
Related
- Requesting an early copy: When an author runs an active campaign, the book page shows Request this copy and the **Early copies** page lists it under **Free early copies** with the reasons it fits you; a request carries a short note, waits for the author's decision, and can be cancelled while pending. There is no waitlist.
- Running an ARC campaign: Studio, Campaigns, New campaign walks through the book, dates and reader spots, ideal readers (genres, tropes, languages, regions, requirements), delivery (formats, files, your message) and how to launch (draft, scheduled, or now). Applications gather under Applications with each reader's match and reliability; approve or decline one by one or in batches, and every decision notifies the reader.
- Who sees what: profile visibility: Settings › Privacy sets your whole profile to public, followers only or private, and your library, reading progress, activity and follower list each on their own. Your follow-through is a fifth setting: by default only the authors you request a copy from see it. Author pages are public by nature; what an author keeps private is the library and activity.
- Setting your reading preferences: Your genres, tropes, language and the content you avoid shape recommendations, your feed and your early copy matches. Set them in the onboarding wizard (every step skippable) and change them any time under Settings › Profile.
