Reading goals
For readersUpdated 2 min read
Goals tracks what you read against a target you set (books finished, genres explored, a series, one particular book and more) over a period, with optional reminders, on your profile or private; a goal can rest and resume without losing anything. Five at a time.
The short answer

Starting one
- Open Goals (in the account menu) and press Start a reading goal.
- What to count: Books finished, Genres explored, Books in one genre, A genre shortlist, One particular book, Finish a series, Books in one series, Emerging authors, Authors discovered, Hidden gems. The form asks for exactly what that kind needs (a genre, a series, a book, your shortlist).
- Set the target and the period (Ends), or choose Own pace for no end date.
- Who can see it: on your profile, or private.
- Reminders: a weekly note, a monthly note, or None. I'll check in myself, in the app or by e-mail.
You may keep five goals on the go at a time. Goals reached and goals ended live under Where you've been; a kept goal earns an achievement (How achievements work).
How it counts
Everything is read from your own shelves and progress: a book moved to Completed counts for a "books finished" goal the moment you finish it, whatever page you finished it from. There are no streak penalties: a goal measures what you read, not how many days in a row.
Resting, resuming, ending
- Rest a goal when life gets in the way; it sits under Goals on hold ("Resting at 4. Everything you've read still counts.") and resumes without losing its history.
- Archive a goal to end it; it stays in your history.
- Goal settings lets you change reminders and visibility while it runs; what you count is fixed once the goal has started (the page says what changes and what does not).
Circle challenges
A Reading Circle can run a challenge its members join; it appears beside your goals and counts the same way. See Polls and challenges in a Circle.
Where this lives
Related
- Shelves and progress: Your Library has five shelves (Want to Read, Reading, Completed, Did Not Finish, ARC Reads); a book lives on one at a time. Books you are reading carry a progress percentage; reaching 100 % or tapping Finished moves them to Completed and offers a review.
- Reading insights: Insights shows what you read (genres, how you rate, themes you return to, pages where the length is known, when you finished), this year and all time, computed from your own shelves and progress; nothing is shared unless you make a Wrap.
- Polls and challenges in a Reading Circle: The Polls tab runs single-choice, multiple-choice, book-nomination and date-and-time polls, with the owner choosing when results show and who sees who voted; the Challenges tab runs group goals (books finished, books in a genre or series, pages read, one book together) whose progress counts from your own reading.
- How achievements work: Achievements are illustrated marks for things you actually did here. Finishing books, turning up to Circle meetings, charting. Only the ones you have earned are shown, newest first, on your profile; each opens to say when and for what.
