Reader and author accounts
For readers and authorsUpdated 2 min read
An account is either a reader account or an author account. You choose at sign-up; a reader can become an author later from For authors, which keeps the library and reviews and cannot be undone.
The short answer
A Booklabria account is either a reader account or an author account. You pick at sign-up, and there is no switch between two views: what you see is what your account is.
What each account has
| Reader account | Author account | |
|---|---|---|
| Library, shelves, progress, reviews | yes | yes |
| Following authors and readers, Reading Circles | yes | yes |
| Requesting and reading early copies | yes | yes |
| Reading Life posts on your profile | yes | no: authors write in the Journal |
| Goals, Insights and Wraps | yes | no |
| A pen name and a public author page | no | yes |
| Books, series, the Author Journal | no | yes |
| Early-copy campaigns, applications, protected delivery | no | yes |
| Studio analytics, promotions, teams, Official Circles, reader invites | no | yes |
The navigation follows: both accounts have Home, Discover, Circles, Early copies in the top bar (the bottom bar on a phone) and the search in the middle; the last place is the role's, Library for a reader and Studio for an author. An author's Library is still there, in the account menu. Charts lives in the footer and on Home's side rail; Help lives in the footer, the account menu and the Booklabria AI launcher.
Becoming an author later
A reader account can become an author account from For authors: press Become an author, give your pen name (and an optional short bio), and Studio opens. Your library, shelves, reviews and follows come with you; reviews stay on the books they are about. Three reader-only screens close: Goals, Insights and Wraps, and you post in the Journal instead of Reading Life. Becoming an author has the steps.
It cannot be undone from the product. The Terms allow one account per person, so there is no second account to fall back to. If you upgraded by mistake, contact support.
Which to choose
If you write and mean to publish here, choose Author at sign-up (you can also arrive from the pricing page with a plan in mind: the type is preselected). If you are here to read, review and request early copies, choose Reader; you can become an author whenever you like.
