Setting your reading preferences

Your genres, tropes, language and the content you avoid shape recommendations, your feed and your ARC matches. Set them in the onboarding wizard (every step skippable) and change them any time under Settings › Profile.
The short answer
What your preferences do
Three things read your taste: Discover and the For You tab of your feed (recommendations), the match shown on every ARC campaign (computed openly from your genres, tropes and language against the campaign's targeting), and the content warnings that mark books carrying something you asked to avoid. Nothing else. Your preferences are never shown on your profile.
The onboarding wizard
A new reader account starts with five steps, every one of them skippable with Skip for now:
- How should we introduce you? Name and photo.
- What do you love to read? Three or more genres give the sharpest recommendations.
- Which tropes pull you in? As many as you like.
- Anything you'd rather avoid? Kept out of recommendations, flagged elsewhere.
- A running start for your feed. A few authors to follow and books to shelve, all optional.
Finish ends the wizard; skipping a step keeps nothing from it. Nothing is locked in.
Changing your answers
- Genres and tropes: run the wizard again from /onboarding (Discover offers Choose your genres until you have picked some). What you choose replaces what was there.
- Language (English, Spanish, French, German or Portuguese) is under Settings › Profile; the ARC match and recommendations use it.
- Content you'd rather avoid is under Settings › Profile too: tick the topics you want kept out of recommendations, and add anything else in your own words under Anything else. Books carrying these are kept out of recommendations, and when one turns up elsewhere its content notes open with the match marked. Nothing is hidden from search or from an author's page: you can always go and find a book on purpose.
